About
Having taught herself at a young age, Melbourne based visual artist, Laura Herman developed her artistic style using her abilities to express a sense of wonder and imagination, embracing a controlled but dynamic expression of movement within her work. Primarily using traditional art mediums but more recently focusing on oil paints, Laura uses a combination of heavy brush strokes and soft, melodic circular motions, blending chaotic textures and gentle backgrounds to create a perception of rhythm within her art.
Having always drawn inspiration from the universe and it’s vast array of possibilities, as well as nature and the seasons; how one comes to an end by decaying in one form for another to blossom, always evolving into something new, inspires Laura to embrace the process of trial and error as she approaches her work with little plan of where each piece will go, allowing her to emphasise the diversity of the aesthetic senses.
Since 2014 Laura has been active within her local art community, contributing work to several group exhibition, including but not limited to Raw Artist – Trend at The Melbourne Pavilion (2016), multiple exclusive group exhibitions at Artboy Gallery, Prahran (2104 – 2017) and Brunswick Street Gallery, Firzroy (2017). Laura has also held two of her own solo exhibitions throughout Melbourne, The Galaxies Among Us (2016) and Fragmented (2017). Her work has also been displayed and sold within local Melbourne cafes.
