Jim Henson

A tribute exhibition to the great Jim Henson and all his wonderful creations

Mumble

Mumble and Moan. From the very first time I saw the movie Labyrinth, not only did the film become an instant favourite, these two door knocker characters had me in giggles with their banter and bickering and secured themselves a permanent spot in my memory bank. They were the first idea I had when pondering over my Jim Henson tribute pieces. Funnily enough, before I had shared my ideas with anyone a number of my friends suggested these characters would suit my style.

A Gelfling’s Journey

I knew I wanted to create some pieces based on Jim Henson’s film Dark Crystal but I took quite a while to finally nail down what that was going to be. There’s so many awesome creatures and scenery worthy of artistic tribute but I finally settled on a mash up of the two main Gelfling characters and one of my favourite symbolic pieces of the film.

When the Three Suns Meet

I did this piece to satisfy my need of intricate detail and shading. A dark fantasy world with eerie, otherworldly landscapes suited my drawing style very well and I enjoyed mindlessly doodling away at this for a good few hours before sharpening the image up for the final drawing. Although it’s quite a detailed drawing the image itself is simple yet symbolic.  Something I always enjoy including, even if sometimes subtly, within my work
